Here's a YouTube video (not ours) of AlphaBaby in action.AlphaLab products are great at measuring various physical quantities (magnetism, electric field, etc.). Pretty cute! All told, AlphaBaby is a great app for sitting down together and talking about important people and places in your lives, and it provides an entertaining forum for the sort of repetitive counting and letter recognition activities that children this age love to do. He taps her photo repeatedly when it appears on screen and giggles each time he hears her saying her name. Also, he currently has a huge toddler crush on our friend's elementary school-age daughter who let us take her picture and then recorded her name for the app the last time she was at our house. He will spend as much time as we give him making new objects appear and moving them around the screen. We plan on adding pictures of the trash truck, a bus, the beach, the park, a stop sign, a fire engine, a luau from our recent trip to Hawaii, and his daycare teachers in the next week or so, and I'm sure this list will grow exponentially with his language and life experiences. Interestingly enough, some research has suggested that recollecting and reminiscing about daily and life events together with your children can help them to make sense of their worlds. It can also help them begin learning the words for letters, numbers, shapes, and colors, basic elements of most toddler "curricula." An added bonus is that it helps to remind them about friends and family members who live far away and can serve as a reminder of favorite places that you visit and events from your daily lives. Each time you tap an object on the screen, the name of that object is repeated. The app comes loaded with pictures and recordings for various letters, numbers, shapes, and colors. A new object appears each time you tap the screen, and older objects disappear after a short interval. The basic premise of AlphaBaby is that you touch the screen, an object appears, and the name of the object is played. They say it's best to start with what you know, so I'm going to start by reviewing one of my toddler son's favorite apps.
